SHOWCASING HOW OUR UNIQUE APPROACH TO PROCESS IMPROVEMENT CAN HELP PRECAST PRODUCERS TO ‘MAKE IT BETTER’

A senior team from ConSpare paid a visit to Leicester City’s King Power Stadium in May, to showcase to the precast concrete sector our unique ‘Make it better’ approach.

Precast 2019, the industry’s largest dedicated conference and exhibition, welcomed more than 450 delegates through the doors, for a packed agenda of speakers from across the industry providing key insights and updates.

We took our place in the accompanying expo, alongside 75 other exhibitors demonstrating the latest technologies, products and services equipping the precast industry.

Here are our top takeaways from the event…

Sustainability continues to drive the precast agenda

With climate change, rising temperatures, construction waste, corporate social responsibility and other sustainability issues hitting headlines every day, the sector continues to do its bit under the Precast Sustainability Charter.

The charter aims to encourage member companies of the sector’s trade body, British Precast, to go beyond legislation and take voluntary action to make their products and operations more sustainable.

A set of sustainability principles has been developed based on the key sustainability issues facing the precast industry, which were identified by British Precast following consultation with the industry and examination of the priorities and concerns of its primary stakeholders.

Health & safety remains a major focus

Dust, vibration and confined space maintenance can all pose significant health and safety risks on the plant.

Plant safety, and the working environment created for staff, is a critical issue for site operators. Although many parts of the concrete production process can be automated, it still relies on human interaction, and this is where the bulk of the risk lies.

The Health & Safety Executive continues to call for a cultural shift within the precast sector, to include more effective management of all health and safety risks, especially dust exposure, to help reduce the burden of lung disease within the sector.

The industry is keen to solve long-standing plant problems

Reviewing the event, Nick White, ConSpare’s National Process Improvement Manager, said: “It was great to attend Precast 2019 and further highlight the transformational improvements that our ‘Make it better’ approach can bring to precast producers across the UK.

“From conversations we had on our stand, it was clear that producers are always looking for new ways to innovate, adopt new technologies and optimise their processes to achieve greater efficiencies, minimise plant downtime, reduce health and safety risks, mitigate their environmental impact and produce a better quality end product, with less waste.

“The industry is keen to solve long-standing plant problems once and for all, and that’s where ConSpare can help. By collaborating with our customers and applying a holistic approach to problem solving, we can help to transform the entire end-to-end concrete production process.”
